As a Pulmonologist at VA Medical Center, Dr. James Murtagh leverages his extensive experience to address a variety of chest problems. Dr. James Murtagh is also an expert in areas concerning sleep medicine and critical care. Recognized by his colleagues and program director as one of the most efficient doctors in the ICU, Dr. James Murtagh has a reputation for dedication. His tireless efforts in the name of scientific progress have earned Dr. James Murtagh numerous invitations to speak at a variety of esteemed institutions and conferences, including Instituto de Ci�ªncias Biol�³gicas da UFMG in Belo Horizonte, Brazil; the University of Alabama Department of Nephrology; Telluride Conference on Computational Problems in Molecular Biology; and the John Ugelstad Conference at MIT. In addition to his clinical career, Dr. James Murtagh is committed to passing on his knowledge to future generations of medical professionals through numerous academic appointments. Most recently, Dr. James Murtagh taught as a tenured Associate Professor at Emory University's Department of Medicine. While teaching at Emory, Dr. James Murtagh held various positions, such as Chief of Grady Memorial PFT Laboratory, Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy at Atlanta VA Medical Center, and Chief of the VA Pulmonary Clinic. Additionally, Dr. James Murtagh has been awarded over $2 million in research grants. An accomplished writer, Dr. James Murtagh serves as a contributor, as well as an editor of OpEdNews, an online news and opinions publication. Dr. James Murtagh also serves as an editor of and contributor to "Medical Tuesday," an online medical health publication. Dr. James Murtagh has also authored dozens of medical articles, general scientific articles, book chapters, and reviews. In his limited spare time, Dr. James Murtagh enjoys writing, watching movies, traveling, and boating. An avid reader, Dr. James Murtagh enjoys the works of Shakespeare, Dante, John Grisham, and George Orwell.
